Examining the relationship between quality of work life job stress and work life balance among the software developers in it sector in Colombo district

Abstract

This dissertation explores how Quality of Work Life affects Work-Life Balance, with Job Stress serving as a mediating factor. The study examines the relationships between these variables by applying relevant theories and drawing on the experiences of software engineers in the Colombo district. A deductive research approach and a positivist philosophy were adopted, and participants were selected using a convenience sampling method. The research investigates theoretical frameworks related to the independent (Quality of Work Life), Work Life Balance dependent (Work Life Balance ), and mediating variable (Job Stress). Data was collected from 385 software developers based in Colombo. A quantitative research design was used, and analysis was conducted with SPSS (Version 23), including tests for normality, correlation, regression, and hypothesis testing. In addition, Sobel’s test was used to analyze the mediating effect of Job Stress on the relationship between independent (Quality of Work Life ) and dependent (Work-Life Balance).
