Abstract:
"In Sri Lanka, the traditional blood donation and management system faces several challenges, including inefficient tracking, lack of transparency, and difficulties in ensuring the safety and quality of blood supply. A Blockchain-based Blood Donation and Management System offers a transformative solution to address these issues. Blockchain technology, known for its decentralized and immutable ledger, provides an ideal platform for managing and securing sensitive health data while enhancing transparency and trust among stakeholders, including donors, hospitals, and blood banks.
This proposed system leverages blockchain to create a secure, transparent, and tamper-proof record of blood donations and transfusions. Donor data, donation history, and blood inventory details are recorded on the blockchain, ensuring traceability and preventing data manipulation. The system utilizes smart contracts to automate processes, such as verifying donor eligibility, recording blood test results, and matching blood requests with available stocks. Additionally, a reward mechanism could encourage regular donations by recognizing and rewarding donors through a secure, transparent system.
The implementation of this blockchain-based system would improve the efficiency and reliability of blood management across Sri Lanka, allowing for real-time inventory tracking, which is critical during emergencies and disaster response. Moreover, it provides a reliable framework for managing blood donations by reducing errors and administrative burdens, thereby enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services. This paper discusses the design, architecture, and potential benefits of implementing a Blockchain-based Blood Donation and Management System, emphasizing its role in strengthening healthcare infrastructure, promoting donor engagement, and ensuring a safe and sufficient blood supply for the country. The proposed system demonstrates how emerging technologies can address critical issues in healthcare, paving the way for an efficient, trustworthy, and modernized blood donation network in Sri Lanka."
