Abstract:
"This document consists of a research and development carried out regarding an asset
management system that was done. Once the described system is implemented into a business
or an organization, the users can add or manage their business sites, asset types, suppliers, and
individual assets within the organization. This asset management system allows users to add
and manipulate important information about each of these entities. With that it ensures that all
asset relevant data is easily accessible and manageable by a single user. With this platform
current existing manual asset management process get enhanced into more efficient and
accurate system. And with that it reduces the amount of errors that can cost.
In addition to these functionalities, with this system, it is possible for users to create
maintenance request for assets if they are out of order and maintenance engineers or technicians
can attend to these requests. Furthermore, the system includes a depreciation calculation
function so that users can calculate depreciation values for the assets they owned in a specific
time period. This function uses the straight-line depreciation formula to do the calculation.
Using this function will both make the work more efficient and beneficial for the businesses.
Before the implementation was done, a research was carried out about existing systems and to
find the value of such a system. With the research a detailed design chapter was completed
with various types of diagrams which will be needed to complete building the system
successfully. Upon completion of the design, the implementation was carried out. In this
implementation stage author developed this asset management system as a web application.
Also a testing and evaluation phase was conducted afterwards with the help of domain and
technical experts. With these steps author was able to create a strong and easy-to-use asset
management system."
