Abstract:
"The Sri Lankan railway ticketing system which includes conventional counter-based
systems and modern online booking platform has many challenging issues that
undermine its efficiency and reliability. While passengers use trains as their one of the
most significant mode of transportation, passengers face constant obstacles that make
it difficult for them to access and utilize ticketing services effectively.
The project aimed to revolutionize the ticket booking experience for train passengers
in Sri Lanka by introducing a user-friendly and efficient self-service kiosk system.
The primary objective of the project was to create an application integrated with selfservice kiosks strategically placed at train stations across Sri Lanka. This final report
shows the comprehensive development, implementation, and evaluation of the selfkiosk application. The project began with a depth analysis of the current online ticket
booking process and identified key pain points such as long queues, manual ticketing
system and limited accessibility. This kiosk application offers passengers the
convenience of browsing train schedules, selecting seats, ticket customization and use
e ticketing system. Additionally, the self-service kiosks placed at railway stations
provide a method to book the tickets, make payments and print their own tickets.
