Abstract:
"Pets play a significant role in the lives of many individuals, offering companionship and
numerous health benefits. Despite the positive impacts of pet ownership, managing pet-related
information remains a challenge for many owners, particularly in Sri Lanka where
comprehensive pet care applications are scarce. This project addresses this gap by developing
VetMate, a pet care management web application tailored to the needs of Sri Lankan pet
owners.
The project begins with a thorough analysis of the challenges faced by pet owners in managing
their pets' records, highlighting the inefficiencies of paper-based systems and the lack of digital
solutions in the local context. Through literature review, pilot studies, and industrial surveys,
essential requirements are gathered to inform the design and development of VetMate.
VetMate is a cloud-based platform designed to streamline pet information management for
owners while facilitating seamless interaction with pet hospitals/clinics and pet stores. Key
features include storing and managing pet health records, scheduling appointments, accessing
nearby veterinary services and pet stores, and facilitating product orders. By integrating these
functionalities into a user-friendly interface, VetMate aims to enhance the pet ownership
experience for all stakeholders involved.
This report details the design, development, testing, and evaluation of VetMate, providing
insights into its unique features, strengths, and areas for improvement. Additionally, it
discusses the acquisition of new knowledge and skills throughout the project, highlighting the
professional growth and learning journey facilitated by the development process.
Recommendations for future enhancements and avenues for further research are also provided,
underscoring VetMate's potential to revolutionize pet care management in Sri Lanka."
