Abstract:
"Determining how to effectively manage electronic waste in Sri Lanka poses a significant challenge. With the rapid advancement of technology, individuals and businesses frequently discard electronic devices without proper consideration of their disposal. This leads to environmental degradation and health hazards due to the improper handling of electronic waste. Additionally, the lack of awareness and infrastructure for electronic waste management exacerbates the problem. Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop comprehensive strategies for the collection, recycling and disposal of electronic waste in Sri Lanka to mitigate its adverse impacts on the environment and public health.
The main objective/aim of this initiative is to assess and pinpoint the escalating electronic waste issue in Sri Lanka. Through analysis, design, development, and evaluation, My goal is to develop an application/tool that serves as both electronic consumers and collectors and a maintenance application, facilitating closer connections with the Central Environmental Authority and government in the realm of electronic waste management.
Following the finalization of requirements, the initial step towards implementation involved developing the user interface using Figma, with additional assistance from icons sourced from the Figma community, Subsequently, the mobile application prototype was constructed using Android Studio, integrating technologies such as Flutter, Node.js, and Google Maps APIs. Throughout the implementation process, I acquired and honed various skills and knowledge related to these tools, thereby enriching my proficiency in their usage.
In a domain with few existing applications, ECOWISE strives to stand out as a significant milestone application. It targets electronic consumers and collectors grappling with prevailing conditions, aiming to address their needs comprehensively. Furthermore, ECOWISE harbors the significant potential for future enhancements, promising further advancements and improvements."
