Abstract:
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder characterized by memory loss and cognitive decline. Memory loss, confusion, issues with language communication, behavioral changes and mood swings are common symptoms of the disease. As the leading cause of dementia in adults, it poses significant challenges for caregivers, who face difficulties in providing care due to the mental impairments of the patients and their own busy lifestyles. Additionally, medical professionals strive to slow down the disease's progression through cognitive enhancement therapies. This research project aims to analyze the obstacles faced by caregivers and provide a viable solution to support stakeholders in delivering optimal care, enhancing cognitive abilities, and ensuring patient safety. The research methodology included a comprehensive literature review and interviews with domain experts such as psychologists, psychiatrists, and caregivers themselves. The findings revealed that caregivers experience high levels of stress, encounter various difficulties, and face safety concerns while managing and caring for Alzheimer's patients. Tracking the patient's current mental status is crucial due to the gradual loss of cognitive abilities over time. Moreover, maintaining the patient's cognition at a standard level necessitates continuous support and cognitive enhancement therapies under the guidance of medical professionals. To address these challenges, AlzhCare introduces a mobile application designed to assist medical professionals and caregivers. The application enables them to track assigned cognitive stimulation therapies and monitor the patient's memory level as needed. Additionally, it provides a safety tool for caregivers, allowing them to monitor the patient's location, heartbeat, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, ensuring vigilant care and enhancing patient safety.
