Abstract:
"Retail industry is one of the main components of a country’s economy. Big
supermarkets and chain shops use various methods to manage and track
their inventory, but the smaller shops do not have that kind of methods. They
mostly use manual methods like writing things in books. These manual
method leads to various flaws and ultimately the shops lose their sales. The
aim of the project is researched and investigated the issue of not having a
proper inventory management in small retail shops in Sri Lanka and to
design and develop a simple automated retail inventory management
system that tracks sales and inventory in small retail shops in Sri Lanka,
and predicts the stocks needed for the shops and predict customer
demands using past sales details of the shops. DSDM agile software
development methodology is used for the development of the system.
Several surveys were conducted with end users to make the solution better
in every possible way. The solution is in line with defined requirements and
user testing was done to prove the solution is worth it for the end users.
Further improvements and new features are planned to be done in the
coming time."
