Private Higher Education Institute Recommendation System

Abstract

Private higher education is now booming in Sri Lanka, and lots of private higher education institutes are available and are providing different courses for the different career pathway. This has created a lot of options for the students and students find it difficult in choosing the appropriate institute that will suit the career pathway they have chosen. This has created a necessity for private higher education institute recommendation system. To address the problem mentioned above, the project will focus on creating a software system that will recommend private higher education institutes based on particular user personality by using machine learning techniques. The system initially starts with gathering data from Twitter using Twitter API and the collected Tweets are pre-processed, and the dataset is created, and then the dataset is analysed using decision tree classification algorithm and model are created. Through the web application, the user fills the answers to the personality prediction questions and get the recommendation of private higher education institute from the model. The results of the research clearly outline that personality is one of the factors which needs to be considered when choosing a private higher education institute because students drop out from institutes due to not choosing an appropriate higher education institute that will suit for their personality. This research project will be a great help in hand for the students who have completed their schooling and starting higher education in a private higher education institute. The application will guide the students to choose an appropriate private higher education institution to continue their higher education.
