This project delineates the design and execution of an AI-integrated storytelling mobile application, created as a native iOS solution to mitigate the escalating issue of social isolation among senior folks. The application utilises sophisticated technologies in artificial intelligence and multimedia creation to allow users to document personal stories, subsequently refined through automated sentiment analysis, image production, background music composition, and AI-generated narration.
The project architecture, originally intended to employ Microsoft's Azure AI services, was modified to incorporate OpenAI's specialised services (Whisper, GPT-4 Turbo, DALL-E 3, and TTS) coordinated via Azure Functions. This technology offered a more efficient, modular, and scalable strategy for processing user-generated content, facilitating the smooth conversion of raw audio recordings into rich, emotionally impactful digital narratives.
The program utilises a user-centred design paradigm, guaranteeing accessibility, intuitive interaction, and engagement for all age groups. Swift and SwiftUI facilitated iOS front-end development, whilst backend functionalities—such as transcription, sentiment analysis, and multimedia enhancement—are performed through cloud-based microservices on Azure.
Moreover, the system architecture facilitates cross-device interoperability and integrates optimal practices in data security, usability, and intergenerational inclusivity.
This study delineates the entire software engineering lifecycle, encompassing research, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and assessment. The approach exemplifies the ethical and practical utilisation of contemporary AI technology to save oral histories, enhance digital inclusiveness, and connect generational divides through immersive storytelling. |
