EduPick: Recommending A Higher Education & Career Pathway Based On User Preference Using Machine Learning

Abstract

"A major difficulty faced by school leavers is their inability to select a proper degree pathway suitable to themselves. This may be due to multiple reasons, such as, their lack of knowledge and understanding in the subject area of various study paths offered. Further, their inability to understand themselves, their strengths and talents due to inexperience and immaturity. However, selecting the right and suitable degree pathway is important to each student as it determines their future career pathway. Moreover, the wrong choice made at this juncture can deeply impact the student and their future since they would waste ample time, money and energy forcing themselves to like what isn’t meant for them. Hence, it is important that the student makes the decision on what their pathway would be without being severely influenced or pressured by a third party. As a solution to the problem where students find it challenging to select an appropriate higher education pathway based on their interests, hobbies and skills; the author hopes to develop a platform which will provide assistance and act as a guiding light on this endeavor. EduPick, will request the student to answer a set of questions and based on their answers which will be analyzed using the ML model, the recommendation will be presented."
