"The global population in urban areas have continued to rise over the past decades and naturally have been forecasted to rise over the upcoming decades as well. The need for products to satisfy the requirements of such massive populations has also resulted in the increase of waste production as well for production waste to waste post-consumption. in order to manage these all urban cities and land holding comparatively large number of people require waste management to take care of the waste that is produced on a regular basis. Waste management covers all the activities necessary for monitoring and processing the waste generated in a city.
Therefore, the main aim of this project is to design and develop a waste management system that aids small and medium-sized waste paper trading companies to help them improve the level of synergy in the operations management with in warehouses that procure and manage waste paper and related products, which in turn would also help improve the efficiency of operations within their warehouses. the main methods of data collection that were used during the course of the project were face to face interviews and observation. An indepth study was done by evaluating all existing waste management systems that exist in Sri Lanka and internationally inorder to design an appropriate solution.
This solution focused on eliminating or reducing the impacts of problems identified in the operations management practices of Sri Lankan waste paper trading SMEs by working closely with such agencies and getting their feedback and suggestions. As a result, it will enhance the quality and synergy of operations within waste paper management warehouses and pave the way for more efficient and more profitable waste paper trading businesses. Legal, ethical and social issues were considered throughout the development of this project to ensure a functional and realistic product is produced." |
