Smart Travel Locator

Abstract

There is a growing demand in tourism for finding locations based on traveller’s requirements such as attractions and entertainments within their budget. In order to cater this market segment by providing information needed at fingertips through a mobile application is identified as a problem solution. 'Smart Travel Locator' is a mobile application which provides locations, travel destination & accommodations for travellers, based solution on the customer requirements such as areas of interests (attractions), travel time period (start and end date), budget and group size. The aim of the project is to analyse the factors contributing to the difficulty in finding locations to travel based on the customised requirements such as places, scenery and budget and to design, develop, test and evaluate an IS solution that will recommend locations based on the customer requirements and display the nearest accommodation options for travellers, based on their budget. The project focuses on providing a user-friendly mobile application with various technologies such as GIS Technology, Google map location services, Panoramic Image Viewer (360 Panorama), targeting low cost travellers / backpackers in particularly. This will be used by the various categories of tourists ranging from planned travellers through backpackers. This is mainly targeted for the local & foreign tourists in Sri Lanka. Target market in this research comprises planned tourist, low and middle range travellers who live in Sri Lanka. The solution focuses on tourists and their travel plans.
