<title>An Exploratory study to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Sri Lankan government schools textbook and teachers' guide distribution.</title>

<description>An Exploratory study to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Sri Lankan government schools textbook and teachers' guide distribution.
Athukorala, Ravindra
Education plays a major role in the life and culture of Sri Lankan people. Therefore, the government made it compulsory for the children to attend schools and provided with free textbooks. Educational Publications Department (EPD) is given the authority to print and distribute the textbooks all over the country. The objective of Textbook Gateway Project is to study, research and identify existing issues related to textbook distributions by the Department and to develop and evaluate an effective and efficient IT solution that will enable a better medium of communication between the staff of the EPD and stakeholders. Therefore, in this report, the reader can find how the EPD presently handles the work of the distribution of free textbooks to schools and the problems faced by the EPD in distributing the books to the students before the Christmas holidays each year. The reader can also find in this report the reasons for the problems such as delays in distributing textbooks are due to non-availability of predicting the next year’s book requirements, data maintenance and delivery mechanism. In this report, the usage of Simple Moving Average Forecasting Technique was carried out to predict the number of book requirements needed for next year to ensure delivery of books on time. Also the shortest path algorithm which was used to find a solution to the delivery problem were also analysed. Research on similar systems was carried out. Through research, it was revealed that a web based solution will assist to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the distribution system. &#13;
Hence a web-based solution has been identified as a way out for the problems faced by the Educational Publications Department and this report also describes the analysis, design and implementation of a website created using PHP and MySQL which assisted in the success of the project.

<title>“SimplyFresh " A consumer engagement solution for effective consumer participation in organic initiatives and earning awareness in Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://dlib.iit.ac.lk/xmlui/handle/123456789/240</link>
<description>“SimplyFresh " A consumer engagement solution for effective consumer participation in organic initiatives and earning awareness in Sri Lanka
Fuard, Sameera
Organic food has gained popularity around the world due to its nutritional benefits and has now become a symbol of fashion and status. Many organizations are now coming up with different intermediaries and IT platforms to sell organic produce around the world. &#13;
The concept of organic food has now reached Sri Lanka and many organizations and government in Sri Lanka have created different channels to offer consumers organic produce. But it is quite evident that not all consumers get to indulge in chemical free fresh organic produce such as vegetables, fruits, herbs and green leaves which is unfair as all consumers are entitled to access food that are nutritious and healthy and to be given a choice. Hence it is quite obvious that there are many issues with the current organic initiative program in Sri Lanka, such as lack of awareness on conventional and organic produce, negative attitude and perception, limited accessibility to organic produce, price and certification which has led to consumers not engaging in current organic initiatives. Based on this background, the project aims to analyze why consumers don’t participate in organic initiative and design and develop an IT solution where all consumers can participate in purchasing organic produce. The project focuses on making organic produce available for the consumers to purchase at a reasonable price at the same time focuses on aiding women and retired people to earn an income. &#13;
An effective conceptual framework was created incorporating the IT solution where factors such as health, effort, quality, status, price, safety, trust, value and economy were analyzed and validated via interviews and questionnaires. Both the conceptual framework and IT solution focuses on streamlining organic initiatives with consumer participation.

<title>Clustering based oullier detection for financial data analysis</title>

<description>Clustering based oullier detection for financial data analysis
Nissanka, Subashini Dilshika
As the world grows in complexity, we are overwhelmed with data. The more the volume of data increases, the more the proportion of people understanding on data decreases. People understanding on data is a big concern these days as data adds more value in organizational context by producing new insights, inspiring innovations, allows more distinct decisions at correct time to gain above average competitive advantages. This big concern is not a big deal anymore with statistical data analysis. There are plenty of techniques, tools, algorithms which analyze data, to make people see, understand and share analyzed data for better performances. Therefore, having realized that people should study statistical data analysis and data visualization to explore transparency on data to unveil hidden stories and to create knowledge. &#13;
To this end, the aim of this project is to study, whether an unsupervised data analyzing (machine learning) approach would be feasible to detect suspicious data or outliers in financial data. Outliers are patterns in data, that do not conform a well-defined notion of normal behavior. In this project, I focus on data clustering technique for outlier detection. Clustering is an unsupervised learning approach which is commonly used for statistical data analysis. Clustering algorithms are powerful and group massive datasets into sub-groups which share similar characteristics (clusters) quickly. &#13;
The project proposed a software tool called DeepScan to detect outliers in financial data. DeepScan allows users to analyze financial data to detect abnormal occurrences to avoid financial losses and poor organizational conditions. A cluster visualization and a statistical report are the outcomes of DeepSan and it allows user to decide whether the detected data instances are belonging to an outlier in their business context or belonging to a normal category which has novel characteristics. This project also validates the proposed solution-DeepScan achieves impressive results.

<description>"United RI" : An advanced smart school management system for Royal Institute international school
Thavarajah, Vaishnavi
Nowadays in Sri Lanka, schools are continued to grow in numbers. Everyday schools are facing many challenges due to the complexity of managing many facilities. Thereby the importance of managing the school by increasing the interaction and collaboration between the stakeholders of the school is growing high. Since there are many software support the school managerial activities there are many un resolved problems left over. In order analyses the existing issues Royal institute international school was selected as it has managing five branched located in different areas. The problems identified in Royal institute international school is very crucial and impacts heavily in their day to day operations. These bundles of problems are divided and grouped into five different key factors. After identified these problems an initial research was conducted to see whether there is an existing solution that can satisfied these issues identified. But the results show the existing solutions for school management are focused on many areas with luxury facilities but could not fulfilling the identified need of Royal institute international school. Therefore, research has focused on in-depth analysis through an industrial survey and thereafter the identified problems are well defined and also the requirements are become straight forward. This helps to continue with design and implement the IT solution “United RI” for the need of Royal institute international school. The business solution of “United RI” supports the school to achieves it’s goal to become the most outstanding international school in Sri Lanka by managing the school operations and the stakeholders.
